Distribution is Complicit!: Liberal frameworks and the global art circuit

BFMAF 2019 Writer in Residence Colm Guo-Lin Peare presents his readings into the production of the author in the creative industries.

We invite you to join us for at The Gymnasium Gallery for an introduction and discussion into the work by Colm.

The commissioned text problematises the structure of the international film festival within the contemporary art circuit, positioning it as a mechanism that operates under certain parameters defined by a liberal economy. In this short and non-exhaustive introduction to the exhausting topic of artistic production’s endless complicities, Colm Guo-Lin Peare explores how the ideological content of the work of Marwa Arsanios and Kira Muratova generates an ethical tension with BFMAF’s globalised mode of distribution that markets, exhibits and explicates them.

The Gymnasium Gallery will be open from 11am - 3.30pm on the day for a final chance to see the exhibition George Clark: Double Ghosts - commissioned for the 15th Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival in partnership with Berwick Visual Arts

Colm Guo-Lin Peare currently sits on the committee of Transmission Gallery. Peare recently contributed to the Reorganising Cultural Institutions conference at BALTIC and is the Writer-in-Residence at the 2019 Berwick Film and Media Arts Festival. Peare’s paper, Recapturing Difference:The Assimilative Desire of Late Liberalism and the Errantry of Joy, was awarded the Honour for Excellence in the Field of Critical Theory by the Fine Art Critical Studies selection panel at the Glasgow School of Art in 2019.
