BFMAF and BVA are delighted to welcome Cecilia Stenbom back to Berwick to show her most recent film, Rules of Engagement. This powerful short film explores our media-saturated, consumer-driven, everyday environments, and the effect this has on human response, identity, behaviour, and interaction.

The film tells the stories of Jack, Robin, and Nadia through a mix of dramatic re-enactment and chamber plays of encounter and emotion, exploring the innate human desire to ‘belong’.

Rules of Engagement will be shown as part of a programme of short films by Stenbom that all relate to the Northumberland region. This includes The Case, made during the artist's 2013 Residency in Berwick. The script for this film was developed using recorded conversations with people living or working in Berwick-upon-Tweed, and examines how crime fiction preys and perpetuates anxiety whilst being a source of entertainment within popular culture.
